Agora Studio: Coal Gasification

Tuesday, October 15

12:00 pm - 12:45 pm
India is the world’s second-largest consumer of coal and has significant coal resources. In the past, availability of cost-effective coal gasification technology was a limiting factor to fully monetize these resources. Significant progress has been made on the technology front in the last decade. How will India attract foreign technology and capital for coal gasification in India? Indian coal is challenging; will coal gasification be economically viable? What global best practices can India adopt to shorten its learning curve and fast track industry development? What key infrastructure enablers are needed to create a coal gasification industry, and what role should the government play?
