Rajeev Lala is Principal Analyst at IHS Markit and has eight years of analytical work experience and more than 14 years of studying the energy sector. Mr. Lala is focused on upstream strategies for national oil companies (NOCs) and international oil companies (IOCs) in the geographic arc spanning the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. Mr. Lala transitioned from an early career in upstream M&A transaction analysis to the less quantitative and more nuanced world of strategy and performance analysis for NOCs and IOCs. In his capacity with the Upstream Companies research program, he also analyses the unique government drivers and objectives that shape the strategies of these upstream players. An alumnus of the School of International Studies at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, India, Mr. Lala completed his MA in international relations and an MPhil in energy politics from the Centre for European Studies. He is currently pursuing a PhD from JNU in energy politics.
